Early Years Foundation Stage - Reception
In Reception we follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and Development Matters (2021)
We develop the characteristics of effective learning through :
- Playing and exploring so that children become engaged. They are given opportunities to find out and explore, play with what they know and develop the confidence to ‘have a go’.
- Active learning so that children are motivated. They learn to become involved, concentrate, keep trying and enjoy achieving
- Creating and thinking critically so that they have their own ideas, can make links and can choose ways of doing things.
At Crawley Ridge we know that children thrive in an environment where learning opportunities are carefully planned to capture children’s imaginations and to meet their needs. We have a skilled team of adults who strive to take every opportunity to support and extend children to enable them to reach their potential.
Learning takes place through a range of adult led and child initiated activities. Children take part in whole class and small group learning opportunities throughout the day.
Learning takes place both inside and outside. The two spacious classrooms are linked by large doors so that children can have access to both areas.
We have a good sized outside area with many resources for the children to use for learning.
The curriculum for Reception is organised into 7 areas of learning. They are organised into Prime and Specific areas. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. The Prime areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. The Prime areas are strengthened and applied through the Specific areas.
The three Prime areas are: Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development
The four Specific areas are: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
Details of these areas can be found in the relevant sections
