Personal Development
Helping every child to flourish
At Crawley Ridge Infant School, we want every child to feel that they belong, that they are valued and that they can make a difference. Personal development is woven through everyday school life, our curriculum and the relationships we build with children and families.
Rooted in our values of Ready, Respectful, Safe, we help children develop the confidence, kindness and independence they need to flourish. We want our children to understand themselves, build positive relationships, learn how to keep themselves safe and healthy, and develop curiosity about the world around them.
From exploring and problem-solving at Forest School to sharing ideas through our pupil leadership roles, children have opportunities to discover their strengths, take responsibility and celebrate what makes them unique.
We believe that the small moments matter: learning to include someone in a game, finding the confidence to speak up, persevering when something feels difficult or discovering a new interest. Together, these experiences help our children grow into confident, compassionate learners who are ready for their next steps.
Finding our place in the world
Through our PSHE curriculum, assemblies, wider experiences and relationships across the school, children learn about kindness, respect, fairness, different families and communities, British Values and their responsibilities towards others.
We encourage children to ask questions, share their views, celebrate differences and understand that everyone has something valuable to contribute.
Growing through experience
Personal development happens in many ways at Crawley Ridge. Forest School, educational visits, clubs, sports, fundraising and special events give children opportunities to explore their interests, work together, try new things and develop confidence beyond the classroom.
We want every child to have opportunities to participate, discover what they enjoy and feel proud of what they can achieve.
Our voices matter
We believe children should have opportunities to share their ideas and help shape school life. Through our School Council, Eco Council, Kindness Ambassadors, Playground Leaders and Assembly Monitors, children learn to listen, take responsibility and contribute to our school community.
Their ideas can make a real difference, helping children understand that their voices matter and that they can positively influence the world around them.
Feeling safe, supported and included
Children develop best when they feel safe, understood and supported. We teach children about relationships, feelings, health and safety, and help them develop strategies to manage emotions and resolve difficulties.
Our nurturing approach, strong relationships with families and additional support where needed help us respond to children as individuals. We want every child to know that they belong, that they can ask for help and that there are trusted adults ready to listen.
At Crawley Ridge, personal development is about more than the activities children take part in. It is about who they are becoming, the relationships they build and the confidence they develop to take their next steps.
