Mathematics

In Mathematics the children are provided with opportunities to apply their skills and knowledge throughout the provision. Daily direct lessons are used to teach the children to count, order, record and recognise numbers.  Children are encouraged to explain their reasoning and develop their mathematical language.

There is one Early Learning Goal within this area:

Number: Children have a deep understanding of number to 10, including the composition of each number. They subitise (recognise quantities without counting) up to 5. Children automatically recall number bonds up to 5 and some number bonds to 10, including double facts.

Numerical Patterns: Children verbally count beyond 20, recognising the pattern of the counting system. They compare quantities up to 10 in different contexts, recognising when one quantity is greater than, less than or the same as the other quantity. Children explore and represent patterns within numbers up to 10, including evens, odds, double facts and how quantities can be distributed equally.
