By the end of Year 2 most children will be able to:

  • Understand that an algorithm is a series of steps that achieves a specific goal or outcome
  • Program a simple animation involving movement
  • Write a simple program that produces an output
  • Test and debug simple algorithms
  • Combine images and text to program a simple animation
  • Know the internet can be used as a source of information, and be able to use it to answer questions, navigate around a website, and locate and collect specific information
  • Combine text, images and other features to create a document or presentation and ensure all choices suit the purpose
  • Use an iPad to take pictures and videos and discussing how to improve them
  • Use a graphing package and a simple database to collect, organise and classify data, asking and answering questions

Online Safety is recognised as an important part of the Computing curriculum and objectives are taught throughout the year as appropriate to the resources and context of learning. We aim to ensure all pupils:

  • Know what information is personal to them, and understand this information should only be shared with trusted adults
  • Understand the importance of checking with an adult before participating in an online environment
  • Can identify characteristics of people who are trustworthy and can help them make choices that keep them safe
  • Are open with trusted adults about online experiences, and identify when their help may be needed
